Calibration section
Making a quality calibration section is fundamental to have a quality roadbook!
To prepare a calibration section we measure and draw it using the Rabbit PRO GPS and the R = 1 (Roadbook Designer calibration).
By doing so, novice competitors who do not have a measuring device, who use their mobile GPS or who do not do the calibration will have a measurement very close to the test measurement.
Tips for producing a quality calibration section:
- No junctions or roundabouts, to avoid the competitor being in any doubt as to how to plot it.
- It should be a road with little movement.
- It should be possible to stop at the start and end points, without the risk of accidents.
- Start at a kilometre marker.
- The end of the section at another milestone about 5 kilometres away.
- Always measure the calibration section in the centre of the right lane, so it is easier to repeat it without changing the route.
The steps to draw the calibration section are as follows:
- Switch on the Rabbit PRO
- Open Roadbook Designer
- In Connections select Rabbit PRO and GPS
- In Calibration tap the R and change to 1
- Under Navigation
- Stop at the beginning of the Calibration Track
- Set odometer to zero
- Add reference
- Draw the vignette
- Tap on the information box (3rd box)
- Prepare to take photo
- Reverse gear
- Take the photo and OK
- Return to the beginning of the section
- Mark that you are at reference 1
- Drive to the end of the calibration (keeping the centre of the right lane)
- Stop at the calibration end point.
- Add reference and repeat steps 4 to 8
- Save the file
You are done! At this point your Calibration Track is almost ready, we will finish it after we get back to the office. Now it's time to Calibrate the Rabbit PRO probes to measure the rally as accurately as possible using the probes.
